A son of Long Island and a father of three, Mike Atkinson loves Hemingway, but also Thomas Pynchon, J.G. Ballard, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Flannery O'Connor and Ray Bradbury.
He's written, and still writes, film criticism, cultural attack,
book reviews and essays for several outlets.
He is the author of several non-fiction books, including: EXILE CINEMA: FILMMAKERS AT WORK BEYOND HOLLYWOOD; FLICKIPEDIA: PERFECT FILMS FOR EVERY OCCASION, HOLIDAY, MOOD, ORDEAL, AND WHIM; ONE HUNDRED CHILDREN
WAITING FOR A TRAIN; andGHOSTS IN THE MACHINE: SPECULATING ON THE DARK HEART OF POP CINEMA.
Mike is also a widely published poet.
His first novel, HEMINGWAY DEADLIGHTS is the first of a series, gallivanting around in the most famous
literary biography of the 20th century with
negligible respect for history but a veins-in-the-teeth yen for truth, irony, cocktails and the good graces of a well-turned sentence. The second volume, HEMINGWAY CUTTHROAT -- which finds Hemingway investigating the very real murder of Jose Robles in 1937 Spain - will release in July of this year.
