(Sally Franklin Christie is in charge tonight)

I wrote a book that covered Abduction, Embezzlement, Betrayal, more than one Murder and Silence.  When If I Should Die was published I did not use a single word harsher than 'damn' and when Peyton Farley said that word, she was chained to a wall in an isolated cabin in Montana.

My second novel, Milk Carton People was salted with minor expletives muttered by a young boy named Brian.  A White House Secret Service agent said the big one that even my most vulgar grade school friends kept to themselves, at least until High School.

When should a writer pepper her reader with buckshot, stock swear words or blast her with the really crass and vulgar terms?

What is the difference between a curse and a swear?  When is a word obscene and when is it profane?

Join us tonight to discuss raw language, for the first hour. We'll take any other questions you may have in the second hour.
