7 Mistakes To Avoid When Writing Your Memoir
http://www.thecreativepenn.com/2012/03/14/7-mistakes-writing-memoir/ Part biography, part storytelling, part personal essay, part exposé, and even part novel, memoir vexes even the most adept of authors. I have spent most of my summer locked in battle with allergies. As I recovered from fits of coughing and wheezing I considered my mortality. If I died today I would regret not telling my story. When considering a memoir many issues arise that stop us in our tracks. Is it too soon to tell this story? My family will never speak to me again. My old boss at the Wrecker Company will sue me. No one is going to believe some of the stories I have to tell. What if I can't handle dredging up old memories? What my story reads like one of the 12 step confessions exercises? You are writers. Who among you hasn't had even a brief moment when you thought about a memoir? Even if you end up disguising yourselves and others to protect the innocent people in your life, this topic is a permission slip to go ahead and give it a try. Thinking about it shouldn't harm anyone. Join us tonight to discuss memoirs for the first hour. We'll take any other questions you may have in the second hour. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
