The Writer's Chatroom Topic Chat: Choosing Genre
Published: Wed, 07/17/13
(Sally Franklin Christie is in charge tonight)
I have written at least seven novels during my writing life. Even though most of them went to the round file or sit in paper form in dusty boxes, I can't really tell you or a prospective publisher what genre they were written for...
I wrote a paranormal of all things and that was not my intent. I even have some speculative fiction and maybe, (looking at my shoes) chick lit.
Do you create with a genre in mind? Does your genre come so naturally that you know what it is right on the first page? Or do you write it and then decide during your pre-submission activities?
From the blog link below we will look at two questions:
How early in my career do I need to choose a genre?
How do I know what genre suits me best?
(The author has answers in her post.)
Join us tonight to discuss genre for the first hour. We'll take any other questions you may have in the second hour. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We look forward to chatting with you!
