John Walters is a freelance writer and editor, and a longtime radio personality. He writes nonfiction; a lot of his work consists of profile pieces written for magazines. His first book, Roads Less Traveled: Visionary New England Lives, was published in 2010 by Plaidswede Press. In it, he tells the life stories of some remarkable individuals who have found a real passion and a sense of purpose in their lives. These are people who have taken their own road less traveled.
His blog (http://johnswalterswriter.wordpress.com/) is a compilation of thoughts, essays, recipes, and rants about his work and some of his favorite subjects. He's a political junkie, registered independent; he likes to cook; he follows sports, but isn't a fanatic. And as a writer and radio guy (not one, but two "doomed" media), he has quite a few things to say about the state of the media and modern communication.
From 2000-2005 he worked at New Hampshire Public Radio as a news anchor and host of The Front Porch, a daily interview show that featured interesting people from all walks of life. He has also worked at Michigan Radio, the University of Michigan's public radio service, and at WAAM Radio in Ann Arbor. He's a graduate of the University of Michigan.
He lives in Montpelier, Vermont, with his wife Evan Eyler, a house rabbit, two cockatiels, and several zebra finches. Local residents may remember him from a two-year stint as managing editor of The Bridge a Montpelier-based community newspaper.
