(Sally Franklin Christie is in charge tonight) Watch me pull a rabbit out of my hat!
Hmmm. A Microwave Oven...
I'll have to get another hat.
Anyone who spent childhood Saturdays with Rocky and BullWinkle will have no problem imagining a microwave oven coming out of a cartoon top hat.
Brevity is my Long-suit. So, let's talk about giving too much information or not knowing our audience. In the case of pulling things out of my hat my son might not have a clue while my age-mates would have no problem following along.
I tend to assume my reader is going to know what I'm talking about and stopping to explain things is downright intrusive. Do we need to write with our audience firmly in mind? Does doing so narrow our potential fan-base? Am I showing my age?
How much is too much? When is it not enough? Who are we writing for?
Join us tonight to discuss how to speak to your main audience for the first hour. We'll take any other questions you may have in the second hour. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
