(Sally Franklin Christie is in charge tonight.)
You may not have heard of Kobo, but they have been bought, for a tanker-load of money, by a company called Rakuten Inc. Their press release says ebooks will remain unchanged under the Kobo name but it may broaden distribution worldwide.

These are two of many distributers of e-books. It is hard to keep up with comings and goings in the brick and mortar stores. We know many of them are closing down. We can blame the changing market place and the rise of e-books for some of this. I would have thought a huge bookstore would have the staff and vision to change with the times.
To further complicate the scenery, MobiPocket, the first e-reading program I was able to use on my cell phone, is closing up shop at the end of the year. If you have a book selling through there it will soon disappear. http://www.fspacerpg.com/detail.php?ID=1498
What does all of this changing landscape mean to writers and publishers? I don't have the answers but I am brave enough to declare it as the Topic for the first hour of tonight's chat.
Join in with your take on the crazy changing world of writing and publishing. For the second hour we will break out the refreshments and chat about whatever comes to mind!
