Platform.

In my branding workshop, I say your brand (your name) is a big neon sign. But everyone has a neon sign. If you want yours to stand out, you have to push it up higher than the other signs. That's what your platform does; it lifts your neon sign above all the others.

When we discuss this topic, there are always several people who don't see any use in spending time platform building. But Michael Hyatt, Chairman of Thomas Nelson Publishers, think's it's important.

In this blog post, he gives three reasons why you need to build your own platform. http://michaelhyatt.com/three-reasons-why-authors-must-develop-their-own-platforms.html  He does say, in the comments, that platform is more important for non-fic than it is for fiction. But he feels it's still important to be known.

Join us tonight to discuss writers' platforms. We'll discuss any other questions you may have in the second hour.

Top Suspense has just published an e-book anthology, and they'd be happy to give free copies (Kindle, epub or PDF) to any member of the Writer's Chatroom, with the following catch: they have to agree to review the book somewhere--a blog, facebook, kindleboards, amazon, all of the above, but someplace. Good, bad, indifferent, they don't care as long as it's an honest review.

So if you'd like to read and review, contact Dave Zeltserman at dave.zeltserman@gmail.com and let him know which format you want. Be sure to identify yourself as a TWC member!
