Kevin Guilfoile was born in New Jersey and raised in upstate New York, but has made his home in Chicago for almost 20 years. While working as an advertising creative director and moonlighting as a humorist, Guilfoile published his first book in 2001. MY FIRST PRESIDENCY: A SCRAPBOOK BY GEORGE W. BUSH, a collaboration with John Warner, was written and illustrated in just 19 days and went to number one on the Washington Post bestseller list.

His first novel, the thriller CAST OF SHADOWS, was published in 2005 by Alfred A. Knopf. It was cited as one of the best books of 2005 by the Chicago Tribune and Kansas City Star, and has been translated into 18 languages.

His latest novel, THE THOUSAND, has been called "gripping and original" by the New York Times, and "An intelligently written Da Vinci Code" by Entertainment Weekly.

Guilfoile has written for McSweeney's, Salon, The New York Times Magazine, and the New Republic. He is also the co-founder and commissioner of the Tournament of Books, which takes place each March at www.themorningnews.org . He lives in the Chicago area with his wife and two children.
