The question was asked: "How do I get an agent?"

The answer covers a lot of ground. We're going to start with query letters.

Once your book is written, re-written, edited, critiqued, re-written again, beta-read, edited again (possibly re-written again) and polished to a high-gloss, you're ready to start looking for an agent. (Unless you're going to self-publish. The previous sentence still applies, but everything after this would be different.)

The way to get an agent's attention is to write a query letter that knocks their socks off. "But," you cry, "My story can't be boiled down to a one-page letter! The agent has to read the pages to know how good it is!" If you think the query letter is a waste of time, you've lost the battle before you start. Give it up, and start learning how to self-publish properly.

If you're still with me, join us in chat tonight. We will be using Janet Reid's querying tips. http://jetreidliterary.blogspot.com/  (Links in the left border.) If there is time, we will also look at the Query Shark blog.  https://queryshark.blogspot.com/.  These sites are your best friend if you're just starting the query process.

Come to chat tonight and start learning how to write a query letter that lands an agent.

If there is time after the topic workshop, we will open the room for any questions you may have.
