Are You Still Writing?
On Saturday, Cleveland II and I went to Target because it was time for our ADI Test, again. It is a simple test to make sure
as a Human & Service Dog Team, we are not endangering ourselves and others. Cleveland knows what he is doing. He has been born into the job.
While I was sitting in a café with Cleveland doing an 'under,' the trainer asks, “Are you still writing?”
Writing. For something so sedentary Writing is an activity.
Am I still writing, am I actively involved in telling stories, writing social justice articles, amusing myself or otherwise playing fast and loose with words?
Are there degrees of writing? Is one kind of writing more involved than another? Is the quick, wind in your hair, NaNoWriMo experience a larger experience than the slow, careful, thoughtful writing of a literary
novel?
Does a 4 page hand written letter rate more writing than a concise, to the point, economical postcard?
Back around to the original question. Am I still writing?
When Audrey gave me the keys to The Writers Chat Room she mentioned not having time
to write any more. She didn’t feel like a ‘writer.’ I took the keys and thought to myself, how hard can it be? After all, the room is open twice a week for a few hours.
Well, putting up the site, maintaining it, PR work, Social Media, newsletters, guests, software updates, chat room software companies fleeing town without warning… rinse and repeat.. I know, now, where Audrey’s time to write ended up.
I am writing. I am reading intently. I am reading about writing. Finding topics and themes and keeping a spoon in every pot.
My reply to the man who asked, "yes, I am still writing, but my writing has evolved. It isn’t the solitary sport it once was. I am writing to help writers feel a part of something." I am learning things
with every monthly theme as I prepare to moderate topics. I am learning about the people we schedule for Celebrity Sundays.
Yes, I am still writing.
Join me, tonight, in the chat room and we’ll talk about Writing Habits and Hygiene.
